Addressing Complex Family and Relationship Issues With Compassion

Safe Space Licensed Clinical Social Work, P.C.  specializes in couples and family therapy.  Our experienced professionals use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples and families gain awareness of how they experience each other.

Couples counseling is a specialized service

Not every therapist is trained—or comfortable—working with two individuals who are simultaneously:

  • emotionally  charged
  • dysregulated
  • disconnected
  • carrying  childhood wounds
  • struggling  to feel heard or understood

Our Staff

Our practice is composed of licensed clinical social workers, licensed master social workers, marriage and family therapist and graduate social workers.

The True Value of Couples Counseling

How Much Does Couples Counseling Cost?

A Therapist Explains What You’re Really Paying For

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner of Safe Space Licensed Clinical Social Work, P.C., I believe couples deserve transparent, honest information about what therapy costs—and why. So let’s break it down in a way that’s simple, fair, and genuinely helpful.

What Is the Cost of Couples Counseling?

At Safe Space Licensed Clinical Social Work, P.C., the cost of couples therapy ranges from $95 to $120 per session. The rate depends on whether you choose to work with:

  • An  Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (lower fee range), or
  • A   fully licensed clinician with advanced training and years of   experience.

Most sessions are 60 minutes. If a session extends beyond the hour, there is an additional $25 for every 15 minutes added. This ensures that couples who need more time can receive it without feeling rushed.

Why Does Couples Therapy Cost What It Does?

Couples counseling is a specialized service. Not every therapist is trained—or comfortable—working with two individuals who are simultaneously:

  • emotionally charged
  • dysregulated
  • disconnected
  • carrying  childhood wounds
  • struggling  to feel heard or understood

A skilled couples therapist must manage all of this in real time, all while holding the relationship system in the room.

That level of training matters.

It impacts cost because you're working with a clinician who understands:

  • partner  dynamics
  • trauma   responses
  • attachment  wounds
  • communication  styles
  • conflict  patterns
  • emotional  reactivity
  • and  the subtle moments that help partners reconnect

You’re not paying for “two individual sessions at once.”  You’re paying for a specialist who can hold two nervous systems at the same time and guide both partners toward emotional safety and understanding.

Does Insurance Cover Couples Counseling?

Some insurance plans do reimburse for couples or family therapy sessions. Coverage varies widely, so I always encourage couples to call their insurance provider directly. When insurance reimburses, it often requires identifying one partner as the “primary client” for billing purposes, even though the focus of treatment is the relationship. This can be confusing, but it’s a common insurance requirement.

For those paying out-of-pocket, our rates are designed to stay accessible while still reflecting the expertise of our team.
